Liteon DG-16D2S Drive Key Dump Using Dvdkey32 and The CK3 In Windows
This tutorial was written by Team Xecuter.

The official forum thread for this tutorial is HERE

The Liteon DG-16D2S Xbox 360 DVD Drive is a new model with special flash lock protection, disabling the ability to update the firmware as you can with other drives (at least for now anyway - we know it is being worked on). However there is the ability to dump the drive key and inquiry data from the drive and patch another firmware with this data then update that firmware onto another drive such as the Samsung MS28 (very easy to buy brand new at the moment) so everything is up and running as it should be.

The downside to this is that you need to solder 2 points on the Liteon PCB to be able to dump this data correctly. We will outlay this tutorial to appeal to all users and we hope that you find it useful.

Once the soldering is out of the way - everything else is pretty simple, so let’s get started.

The instructions are the same for both the Connectivity Kit 3 Pro & Lite (Unless Specified). The tutorial assumes that you are using Windows XP.

First you must have a PC with SATA that supports Legacy / Non-Raid Mode or a compatible SATA Card (Such as the VIA 6421). There are many different devices that support this (Intel, VIA, nForce etc). Our test rig uses a VIA 6421 Sata Card. iPrep will tell you if your Port is working and compatible (see Images 2 & 3).

1. We are first assuming that you have dissasembled your 360 and removed the DVD drive, If you haven’t yet follow this tutorial.

2. You will now need to remove the backplate from the Liteon DG-16D2S DVD Drive. There are just 4 screws and you can use a Philips cross-head screwdriver. Solder the connections as shown in the diagram (See Image 1). We do not accept any responsibility if you mess this up. If you do not know how to solder do not attempt this yourself.

Image 1

3. Connect power from the CK3 to the Hitachi DVD using the green power cable (make sure the connections are the right way around - there are guides on the connectors to help you - plug in the wrong way around and you will damage the drive - remember it’s a power cable). Connect a molex power source to the CK3 (to be safe make sure the CK3 power switch is set to OFF). Connect the SATA cable from the DVD drive to your PC SATA. Now turn the CK3 power switch to ON. To check the power cable is working press the eject switch so that the tray ejects. See Image2 to show how everything should look.

Image 2

4. Now you must first find which IO port the SATA card is using to communicate with the 360 DVD Drive. The easiest way to do this is to install iPrep. Once installed select which SATA card you are using and then click on the ? icon next to it (See Image 2). A popup window will show the 4 digits you need (See Image 3). The example in the images shows that we are using an VIA Sata controller and the I/O port is 9000.

Image 3

Image 4

5. Now grab the DVDKey32 package which includes the PortIO32 IO drivers for Windows from Winford Engineering and are the most stable yet (previous versions caused blue screens etc), and unpack it to your C:\ drive (See Image 5). Once downloaded goto the directory C:\DVDKey32_04_portio32 and install the PortIO32 drivers by double clicking on PortIO32.exe (See Image 6)

Image 5

Image 6

6. If you are using the CK3 Pro you will need to install the USB drivers. This will give the CK3 Pro a COM port number (usually COM Port 3). Once installed connect the CK3 Pro to your PC via the provided USB cable. If you are using the CK3 Lite, plug in the included serial cable to your first available serial port on the back of your PC (See Image 7) - this will be COM 1 or COM 2.

Image 7

To check that the install was a succuss for the PortIO32 and the USB Drivers goto Device Manager (Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager) and scroll to the bottom (See Image

Image 8

7. Before you dump the key you must eject the Liteon tray by pressing eject on the CK3. Then manually push the tray half way in - do not press eject or close the tray all the way in. Now open a command prompt (click Start > Run > type “CMD” (without the quotes) and press enter. Now type cd c:\DVDKey32_04_portio32 and this will put you into the DVDKey32 directory. Type dvdkey32 <io port> <com port> (The example uses IO port 9000 and COM Port 3 so we type dvdkey32 9000 3. (see Image 9).

Image 9

8. After about 20 seconds the key.bin and inquiry.bin files will be saved to the DVDKey32 folder. Make sure the drive key looks good, we recommend you dump it a couple of times to double check. When dumping again you must power off the CK3, unplug the SATA cable from the Liteon DVD, plug the SATA cable back in and then turn the CK3 power back on. Repeat step 7. You may find you will need to do this if the drive key shows up as a row of C’s (See Image 10)

Image 10

9. Now you have the key.bin and inquiry.bin (See Image 11) its a very simple process to patch these files into the firmware file of the drive you are swapping with. That is covered in this tutorial.

Well i finally got round to swapping an old ms28 drive i had in a RROD , and stuck inside of an 360 were the drive was bricked so i thought I would take this 360 and see if the new 360 Experience dashboard preview would install and function properly, well to be honest i couldn’t wait to get my hands on it…

!!!BE WARNED THIS WILL DISABLE YOUR CONNECTION TO XBOX LIVE UNTIL THE 19th NOV!!!

First impressions?.. could do with a nice theme!!

below is a video of basically the same process I took when I installed the update..

Download the preview update here.

Once you download the update, copy the contents to a USB memory stick, while youre xbox is turned on, push your usb stick into one of the front ports, the xbox should tell you that an update has been found and it wants to restart if you want to apply this update… just click restart and wait for the reboot, it will bring out the update blade and show you the progress of the install, after this it will reboot and launch the new Xbox Experience…

After messing around in the main dashboard looking for the themes, I decided that i wanted to see if any games still worked, so i put in my backup of dead space, and played about 20mins or so and pressed the guide button, I liked the newer smaller guide which is in the middle of the screen instead of the older slide out blade…

Its just a pity it disblabes the xbox live connection. Just hope it gets turned on again for the console once the update has been rolled out to everyone…

If you want to give it a shot, try it, but if you think youll miss live, then wait till the update is out…

either way it will come to us all eventually..

Hi thanks for reading my article on how to use your Virginmedia (ex-NTL) connection with a program called Grabit to get access to all the latest downloads including movies, tv-shows, music, music videos and lots and lots of other content, using a 30 year old server technology called Usenet or Newsgroups using a variety of Usenet indexing sites, such as NzbMatrix, Newzleech.

The downside to Usenet is that it’s not free to gain access to the high speed servers with high retention times. You need at least some kind of paid subscription plan to be able to get decent speeds on Usenet, such as Giganews, Newsdemon or Thundernews these subscriptions can vary in price and vary on retention times, Giganews is currently hosting accounts with up to 240days.

Well you’ll be glad to know that on Virginmedia You get Free Access.. Although i do have to point out that there Server retention is definitely not the best at around 7 days worth, but at least its free!!

Before we get started i would like to point out why i choose to download using my Virginmedia connection & Grabit application, why dose everyone use bit-torrent anyway? well thats easy, because it is easy!! my view is, I pay virginmedia a decent amount per month for 20mb broadband, and i want to have access to the fastest speed downloads i can, i don’t want to wait to build up friendships so i can get free invites to the top torrent sites, I just want to look and see whats on offer and download it.

I don’t want to rely on other people with their broadband connections in-order for me to have the best download speed i can, because thats how bit-torrent works, you connect to lots of other people with the same files who are basicly sharing them from there home computers with there slow upload speeds, and only given us around 4 or 5kbps…

now ok im not talking about everyone, im talking about the people that sets there download client (bit torrent program) to the lowest upload speed possible sharing around 5% of the entire file there downloading then disconecting leaving us with fewer people with the entire file, granted people like my self used to leave the client open with the completed file for days on end not turning of the pc at all, even if it shut down, when it re-started it would resume and i would always provide a decent upload speed to the people on the other end who’s still waiting for it to finish…

Ok now that my gripe has finished lets get started..

Step 1: Download Grabit

in order for you to use the virgin media newsgroups, you will need a program to connect to it thats why i use Grabit, there are other programs out there that will do the same job, you can even set it up through Outlook express, but for this example and my preferred choice is to use Grabit.

Step 2: Install Grabit

Step 3:

Start up Grabit, once its started you’ll be asked to input a provider for your usenet server and be asked if it requires a username and password, in the box for the usenet provider type in

news.virginmedia.com

this will be the server in which Grabit will connect to, if the box marked requires username and password is checked, un-check it, you do not require a username and password if you have a Virginmedia connection (just remember if you have no virginmedia connection or use this in work then it wont connect, best thing to do is setup remote access to your home pc for this)

Step 4:

Ok now that the Connection to the server is sorted, Click on Edit -> Preferences
This will bring up the grabit preference window, find the tab called Folders,
edit your Download Directory, you can leave the cache folder were it is.

Step 5:

Ok so now your ready to go… you can close grabit for the time being, an dnow its time to visit one of our Usenet indexing sites we listed above, click a link below to visit one of the sites, I highly recommend nzbmatrix, sign up and possibly leave a donation for the great work those guys do, once you’re logged in edit your profile to so only 7 days retention, and start searching for content..

NzbMatrix

Newzleech

Step 6:

Find something you like and click on it to be taken to the File description page, you will be presented with a lot of information, but what were wanting is the NZB file which holds all the data regarding the files on the SERVER, ie its name, its location, how may files there are, if there is any PAR files, (which are recovery files used if some of the files become corrupt or just don’t reach your computer properly) You can either download the NZB file by clicking on the ZIP download link, or if you are a VIP and Donated to the site, you may just go a head and click on the NZB download link, This will ask you to save a file to your computer, if its a ZIP file then click open and double click the NZB file inside, if its the NZB file alone just click open,

Step 7:

When asked “what you want to do with your file”, select open with and choose Grabit, this will automaticly open Grabit and tell you that you are importing a File.

You should end up with a Dialog box like this appear.

The Type of File which is being Imported

The Default server used(note: you can add new servers so you can toggle paid & Free)

The NZB file from were its opened from

a: Tells it to create a new folder, which will match the server from which your files are being downloaded
b: Tells Grabit to save any incomplete files.

Click Grab to add your NZB file to its batch of things to do, you can now click on the tab BATCH if its not already opened were it will list all the files located on its particular server, once its done Grabit can check to see if any files require repairing, this can be set in the EDIT -> Preferences options, if so it will automatically use the par files included in the download (they don’t always come with it!!) to fix them, once its fixed it can then extract all the files, if they are compressed (which they nearly always are) and if selected also it will delete all the old compressed files and Par files leaveing you with a folder with all the files you wanted inside ready to use….

I hope you found this usefull and give it a try, Im currently on the highest Virgin broadband speed which is 20mb at the time of writing, my normal download speed is 2300kbps! thats 2.3mb per second….

NOTE: With these great download speeds comes great responsibility, Remember.. Virgin has its Fair usage policy, which means that after 4pm, if you download a dvd at 6pm (prime time) which is around 4.3gb in size, the first 3gb of data you download will be at your top speed, but after this Virgin will cap your speed, down to a measly 580kbps, this will last till well after 11pm that night…

The Robot Repliee R-1 (ugly as hell - im sorry) is taken from a five-year-old girl except for being freaky looking and covered in silicone skin. Few people are fooled into thinking she’s real but it was made to be life-like to put people’s mind at ease. The Repliee R-1 robot blinks, stands, and wears clothes. The robot will be used for the elderly and the disabled and the article says it will also fetch objects. The Hybrid Assistive Limb (HAL) suit has 50 sensors and a series of motors to help disabled people move better. The newly developed robogirl is named Repliee R-1. Its sensors and motors combine to help Repliee R-1 move like a human more than any robot ever created.

Hi, Thanks for reading my article on how you can dual boot both Windows Vista and MAC OS X on Your PC.

It took almost what seemed like forever to finally get my main pc to Dual boot properly, After reading lots and lots and lots and lots and (well you get the picture) of “Tutorials ” on the same topic, none of them answered any of the questions that i had and what other people had, so after all of this I figured, why not write my own tutorial and help the people like me who had no idea, how to go about it and have their questions answered here…( I hope )

and after all that hassle, I didn’t like it, so I re-formated the hard drive and went with Linux Ubuntu, after seeing this amazing video on youtube, and i love it… im sure I’ll write a guide on this soon as well, so stay tuned.

Please Read this following DISCLAIMER:

If you are one of those freaky people who hate doing experiments with their PC & seeing crashes and Kernel panics etc.. This Tutorial is not for you!! Just Go and buy a New MAC from apple.com

For the rest of you freaky people like me, let’s get this bitch to work…

Note: Most of the steps below are taken from the following sources.
So i would like to thank them for all the effort they have put in & not in any particular order

uphuck forums

insanelymac forums

OSX86 wiki

Things you’re going to need:

Vista already installed on your primary hard drive.

iATKOS v1.0 ISO image (Link) Its around 2.06GB in size, or Kalyways 10.5.1 Leopard Dvd

Windows Vista Boot DVD (just handy in case..)3. Gparted Live cd

Gparted Live cd

Linux already installed

Original MAC OS

Easy BCD 1.1

Leopard DVD inside the Drive all the time you run MAC

STEPS: ( Follow these steps in the same order … You Should be Allright ! )

1. If you have already Vista installed on your first partition , then that’s great. If not then do install Vista on the 1st primary partition. I hope every body knows how to install Windows , if you are reading this

2. Now if you have a spare partition on your hard drive where you would like to install MAC OS then go ahead and delete the partition. ! Yes you heard it right. I don’t trust how you made that partition, so unless you made it the right way, lets start from scratch.

3. For those, of you who have read that, MAC OS needs to be installed on a separate disk rather than on a different partition, tell you what, thats all bullshit. You can definitely install MAC OS on the same hard disk as windows and dont need any external or extra hard disk.

Now!!! to create the partition which we will use for MAC OS, do the following.

A. Right click on “My Computer”, and click on “Manage” . Under “Disk Management”, create a new volume by shrinking any existing unused partition or if you already have a spare partition in either FAT/NTFS then go ahead and delete it, by right clicking on it and selecting “delete partition”. This will show the partition as unallocated volume or free space. Both are fine. You need atleast 5GB of space, anything more is also no problem.

Note: Just remember, not to create any file system or anything. just leave it as it is.

B. Close the management window. Now click on “Start” and then on the “Run” prompt, right click and select “Run as Admin….”.

C. Type diskpart

D. Type select disk 0

E. Type list partition

F. You should now see all the partitions on your hard disk. Make sure that you could see the partition that you have created just now, by cross checking the size of the disk. The format of the disk should show unallocated . If not then , do the following.

Note: Since proberly all of you are asking your self loads of questions at this part, i would like to point out a bit more information from the above.

If u have created a blank partition from diskmanagment as a simple volume, only then u will see that partition in diskpart. If u have just deleted the partition from disk management and its unallocated/free space then it wont show up as a partition in diskpart. Dont worry if it doesnt show up, just go to step ‘h’ directly. If it does show up then do the below 2 commands and then ‘g’ and then ‘h’. Hope its more clear now

Type select partition x where x is the partition you have just created for mac os

Type Delete partition

Good.. Now We can Continue..

G. Now again Type list partition. If you see the new partition that you created as unallocated, then we are good

H. Type the following command create partition primary id=af. If its successful, then it says so at the end Now type select partition x

I. Type active

J. Type exit

K. Close the terminal and restart your computer with the Leopard DVD in your drive.

Note: I’m tottaly assuming that you have downloaded & burnt the iATKOS.iso image on a dvd

4. We are going into the more meatier part now. The real installation of MAC OS. This is where most of the guides fail to point out correctly the steps needed. So here we go. Once you restart the PC with the iATKOS dvd in the drive, you should see a darwin load screen .

5. As the counter starts to count down, press F8.

6. Now type -v and then Press ENTER.

7. After some time, if nothing goes wrong (which will not since you are following my guide) you should see the Leopard installation screen with a red apple . Hold your breath. We are not quite yet there.

8. Press the -> on the screen and wait for some time till the blue/white striped progress bar vanishes from the screen.

9. In the next screen , on the top click Utilities->Disk utility

10. Here select the disk which we have created in windows to use for MAC OS X on left hand side.

Note: Just for my case, windows names partitions form 0,1,2,3 and MAC names them from 1,2,3,… So the partition number in MAC will be 1+ the partition number in windows. So say, you have created partition 3 in windows, here it will be seen as disk0s4.! well it was in my case.

11. Now click on Erase on the right hand side, and under the format options select “MAC OSX Journaled Extended” and click erase. click on the popup to continue. Once the disk is erased and formatted it should be auto mounted. This you can verify by noticing that the partition will be listed active (Dark colored) on the left hand side while rest of the partitions will be Grey colored. If you got till here.. Phew…you are almost there

12. Now close this disk utility and click on Utilities->Darwin_Boot

13. Click on the terminal, to activate the cursor and type Y.

14. When it asks for disk no press 1

15. When it asked for partition no press x+1

Note: x is the partition no in windows and x+1 is that in MAC OS. So if it was Partition 3 in windows and disk0s4 in MAC OS then you should type 4

16. Click Y and Y. If its succesful, you will get a message saying so.. So and so blocks copied blah blah etc. and Process completed at the end.

17. Close this window and then close the terminal.

18. Now once you are back on the iATKOS installation screen. Click Agree and continue.

19. When it asks for partition/disk to install MAC , then our active partition will be the only option we can choose ! . So go ahead and select it and click Ok.

20. Sit back as the installation goes on for some 20-30 mins based on your RAM.

Note: Don’t click on customize and select unnecessary patches, drivers etc, I tried this and didnt work for me. So don’t bother with any of these.! Just the plain install will do. Believe me.

21. Once the installation finishes. Click on Restart with the DVD still inside the drive. Yup you read it write. Dont remove the disk.

22. Once the PC restarts, dont click anything even when you see the boot screen with the timer ticking down. After a while, you should see the grey apple screen and then voila, the beautiful MAC OS startup screen with welcome message. Dont worry if you dont here the sound. Its still pretty big headway .

23. Now that you have satiated your desire, by playing around a bit, in MAC. Restart it. Still with DVD inside the drive

24. This time, after the PC restarts, press F8. Type -s and press ENTER

25. On the command prompt, type fdisk -e /dev/rdisk0

26. Type flag 1

27. Type quit

28. Type reboot

29. Now before the PC restarts, remove the Leopard DVD from the drive.

30. If everything goes fine, then you should be able to login into Windows Vista normally w/o any problem directly as before.

Note: If you are unable to loginto windows, because there is an error which says “winload.exe” correupted.! Don’t panic. Just slip in Windows VISTA boot dvd into the drive and restart. Click on “Repair computer” once you are inside the DVD and it will automatically detect if a problem exists and suggest “Repair and Restart”. Press the same, and remove the dvd once the PC is about to restart. You should now be able to log in to vista w/o any problem.

31. Once you are inside Vista, put the leopard dvd in the drive. Open the drive from Explorer and copy the “chain0″ file in the Leopard DVD root folder ” and copy it in the Windows partition root, i.e, in C:\

32. Remove the Leopard DVD

33. Again, open the “Command prompt” with “Admin” privileges from the Start Menu.

34. Type bcdedit /copy {current} /d “Mac OS X”
Type bcdedit /enum active
Type bcdedit /set {GUID} PATH \chain0

Note: In the first command type {current} as it is, literally..nothing else..just {current} with the brackets. In the 3rd command however, replace the {GUID} with the alphanumeric GUID you see in the enumerated list under MAC OS X. You can see this list on your terminal as soon as you type the 2nd command above.! As far as i know it is the last entry in the this list. Also it is same as the one that shows up after the 1st command.! Its the one besides IDENTIFIER not the one besides resume object.!

For Ex: bcdedit /set {38912a-233fdf-45ghghhg-fdfe4} PATH \chain0

35. Close the terminal, remove any DVD’s if present in the DVD drive and then restart.

36. Now you should see a boot screen with 2 options, Windows vista and MAC OS X

37. First, Click on windows vista and see if you can log into windows normally. If yes, then great, Restart again.

38. Now select MAC OS X in the menu, you should see the familiar Darwin boot Loading screen with the timer going down. If you dont do anything, then it counts to zero and again shows the menu screen with vista and MAC OS options. dont panic.

39. Again select MAC OS X, and now as the timer counts down, Press F8. You would see a list of partitons on ur disk with their names. Select the partition with MAC OS installed by using up/down arrows and press ENTER.

40. Voila, you did it. ! Vista and MAC OS Leopard on the same PC on different partitions atlast. Hurray. go and have fun.

No more dreaded HFS+ errors and blinking cursor errors or any else. Just plain and simple.!

Enjoy !!!!!!

The concept motorbike is the work of Israeli designer Amir Glinik, who centered his design around the theoretical application of the Ferrari Enzo’s V12 engine, chopped down to four cylinders and modified to drive just one wheel in a motorcycle frame. Around the V4 engine, Glinik has designed a fluid shape that may appear more futuristic in its styling than inspired by current roadcar designs, but certainly catches your attention. Glinik has even planned out the theoretical controls, which blend elements from an F-16 fighter jet (more common in his home country than Ferraris, anyway) and the Scuderia’s high-tech Formula One steering wheel, supplemented by a weatherproof touch-screen LCD atop the fuel tank.

Onetime Ferrari designer Frank Stephenson, now at arch-rival McLaren, was quoted as saying that the closest the average person will get to owning a Ferrari would be a Ducati. True as that may be, what you see here may be the most well thought-out and enticing application of the Ferrari ethos to two-wheeled motoring we’ve seen yet. Follow the link for more information, and check out the images in the gallery below for a closer look.
