Installing Metro 2033 can be a troublesome time for some people..
With all the various configurations loaded on all the individual pc systems which are so different to each other it’s hard trying to pin-point were or how the errors occur,
This small guide will steer you in the right direction….
Most of the files you are going to need, are located in a folder called “Install” which is located inside the games installation directory.
XP:
C:\program files\THQ\Metro 2003\install
Vista
C:\program files\THQ\Metro 2033\install
Vista x64
C:\Program Files (x86)\METRO 2033\install
You Got This Error?
This application has failed to start because “X3DAudio1_7.dll” was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.
Resolution:
Install DirectX 11. You will find this in the “install†folder /D3D11Install/D3D11Install.exe
You can enable DirectX11 in the in game menu under options
Or this error?
“System error : D3D: Your NVIDIA driver needs to be upgraded-system can be unstable! Download latest driver from : http://www.nvidia.com/Download
Resolution:
Download the latest driver, restart the computer and you will have the error again but press ok and game will lunch…
How to fix FOV (field of view) issues:
Make these adjustments to make it more playable:
- Navigate to the user.cfg file – C:\Users\\AppData\Local\4A Games\Metro 2033
- Edit with Notepad
- Find the value: sick_fov 45.
- Change the value to sick_fov 90. (withthe period at the end)
- Save and close the file. And start the game!
For Black screen at startup, crashing on intro movie or can only hear sound but no video:
Resolution:
- If you are running on a dual monitor, unplug the secondary monitor before launching the game.
- If it fails to load after the first run, delete the user.cfg file from the game’s installation directory and try again.
- Edit user.cfg file with notepad located at X:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Local\4A Games\Metro 2033 , r_res_hor 1920 after that, r_res_vert 1200 (or something else), change to 1024×768
Fix freeze at loading screen, random crashes
Resolution:
Browse to the game’s installation folder and install everything inside the install folder:
- Install DirectXÂ from THQ\Metro 2033\install\DirectX and run DXSETUP.exe
- Install Visual C++ Runtime – Browse to THQ\Metro 2033\install\ and run vcredist_x86_sp1_atl_4053.exe
- Install PhysX System Software – Browse to THQ\Metro 2033\install\ and run PhysX_10.02.22_9.10.0222_SystemSoftware.exe
You need to have the PhysX libraries installed even if you own an ATI video card.
If you have Windows Vista SP1, I recommend you upgrade to Service Pack 2 and run Windows update after that, just to grab all the latest updates for that service pack also…
(with microsoft, there are always many…)
Other Info
If you are running the Razor1911 Cracked version of the game and are experiencing some of the same issues, remmeber to install each of the various applications in the install folder & copy over the entire crack folder into your install Directory..”That means open the Crack folder press Ctrl+A to select all the files and go to your installation directory and paste in the files, overwrite any files if asked to do so, and accept/allow any windows warring notices that may popup…
XP
C:\Program Files\METRO 2033Vista
C:\Program Files\METRO 2033Vista x64
C:\Program Files (x86)\METRO 2033
Have fun playing the game, I know I did..

I have got this kind of problem: “You Got This Error?
This application has failed to start because “X3DAudio1_7.dll†was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.
Resolution:
Install DirectX 11. You will find this in the “install†folder /D3D11Install/D3D11Install.exe

But I have windows XP and when I want to install “D3D11Install.exe” it says – Direct 3D 11 is not supported on this version of Windows.
Can you help me with this problem? Thanks for your answers…
Ajven
@Ajven
have you tried to install DirectX, this is located in the other folder…
just run the setup and let it run through, dose your Graphics card support Dx11?
@ Ajven on Windows XP installing the directX from DvD certainly helps! in your case of course
Yes that was the problem :D I didnt install DirectX… after I did there was this kind of mistake:
System error : D3D: Your NVIDIA driver needs to be upgraded-system can be unstable! Download latest driver from : http://www.nvidia.com/Download
Resolution:
Download the latest driver, restart the computer and you will have the error again but press ok and game will lunch…”
So I did as you said there AND IT WORKS NOW!
Thanks a lot for your time..:D

Dear Marty,
Great page!
However, I’m having an issue.
“This application has failed to start because “X3DAudio1_7.dll†was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.”
If I try to install DirectX 11 from the install directory I get:
“Direct3D 11 is present on this system. No update required.”
Any ideas?
I’m running Windows 7 x64
much the same as “Ajven” have you installed Dx10?
got a question for you guys. randomly during the gameplay Metro 2033 crashes, I’ve notices that two times it hapened during the grenade explosion. Anybody experienced the same?
My Computer:
AMD Phenom II X3 710 2,6 Ghz 4GB Ram(xp detects 3,25 maximum)
Windows XP Proffesional SP 2
Nvidia GeForce 9600 GT
Im having a problem with the “side by side configuration” error.
Installed everything in the install folder (D3D11, PhysX,DirectX), updated my graphics card, reset my computer and still getting the error. Anyone have a suggestion?
^ *Updated graphics card drivers*
Also, make shure you run all these installations as SUPERVISOR if they don’t work.
Sorry ‘sure’.

Same problem, Vista 32Bit
@Kharem
I Did notice a few times through-out the game when certain actions were performed, funny things started to happen, the monster dogs would die, but get stuck to the wee guys leg, and it would be dragged about, also standing at doors to open, the door would make the sound of it opening, but it dosnt!.. then you try again, and it dose, as for the grenade, I did notice a little slowdown…
Me thinks the game will have an update soon..(we hope)..
I did all they said here I haven’t had a single crash form that time:

i’m running windows 7 ultimate. Pentium dual E2180 and 3gb ram
but the voices on metro vanish from left to right. While facing a person who’s talking the voice is gone any idea’s on how to sort that out?
hello Max,
Same pb kept me awake Thursday night. Eventually succeded running Metro after XXX hours over blogs and forums.
If further to your sidebyside print it comes that the Error Report file in Windows states “blabla VC80″ then it may be that either Visual C++ packages are not properly installed or improperly shared by sidebyside routine.
I considered that both were possible, hence applied the following 1) removed all UAC settings (User Acces Control) in Windows panel, AND 2) uninstalled all Visual C++ dated 2005.
I then reinstalled the 2 “C++ 2005″ packages from microsoft : i.e 1rst) the basic C++, and 2nd) the C++ SP1 package, THEN the C++ package included in Metro files (the one in “Programs/…/Steam/…” which seems to be a different version from the previous ones).
…..and here comes Metro 2033 ;-)
I reset the UAC this morning, and Metro is still playing
Hope this will help

PS : Am running Vista familly premium (SP2) + Nividia 9600GT
Hi all,
I have Windows 7 64bit and I made everything that was written to start the game but now,
it loads for +-ten seconds and than nothing happens…
what I have to do?
Hi guys im having some trouble, and i think i have read everything everywhere!
I have Ati radeon hd 5850 and Windows 7!
When I start the game everything works fine untill when I reach to the menu, then the game freezes?!?! and i dont know what to do?!!
Please help
i have the “x3daudio.dll not found” error. i have installed dx11, and everything else. still cant get it to work…
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO IS: uninstall physX. install an older version of physX. then, install the version that came with the game.
hope it helps, all my problems, and 95% of all the others I’ve seen in similar threads can be solved by the above method :)
xp on x64 directx 9 work fine in win 7 for all your problem install directx from game folder but this will overwhite your directx 11 in windows 7 then he will play but you will lost your 11 but play in 10
so for now im playing in x64 on xp and he is great. for black sreen on start its just your monitor the problem. people who have plug to monitor do not use it
for brett its in the option sreen antialiasing or someting like that drop it a little :o)
munacra change your driver for your sound card
the problem with the game is simple if your graphic card dont support directx 11 dont try to install in win 7 with 11 but you can still play with the directx 10 beware 10 in the game folder but x64 on xp look great and run well too so good luck everyone but have to go and don’t forget what i said x64 or x86 on xp is the best way if you dont have graphic card like nvidia geforce gtx 460 for directx 11 . bye bye
@ Gurv
Thank you very much. I got the game working using your advice (though I had to install the security update of visual distributable 2005 c++ too).
Hi, I’m trying to install the things in the “install” file, but when I try to do the PhysX and Vcredist files, this error comes up:
” ‘C:/Program Files/….PhysX_10.02.22_9.10.02…” is not a valid Win32 operation”
Any reason why that comes up, and can you help please?
