Update: New version of Garmin with Full install Tutorial with download links
how to enable the N95 built-in GPS to be used with Garmin Mobile XT software, where we can download free maps from local portal Malsingmaps. Details are taken from this wonderful site.
Step 1:
- Connect your phone to the PC (Ed: with the USB data cable, do NOT use PC Suite).
- Select Mass Storage
- Download and install the following softwares (from your PC), following the orders below.
- Garmin: Garmin Mobile XT Support Files Updates & Downloads
- Garmin: Garmin Mobile XT Free Basemap Updates & Downloads
- Garmin: Garmin Mobile XT for Symbian S60 Updates & Downloads
- (Editor’s note: You are to double click on the files, do not unzip! The computer will prompt you on the drive to install the software, choose the drive that is your N95.)
Step 2:
- Sign up and log in to this forum here.
- Download this file to your PC: Garmin Mobile XT Keygen.
- Launch GMXT (in the phone), go to Settings -> About. Make note of your “Card IDâ€Â.
- Launch the above keygen program (Ed: on your PC), and enter the “Card ID†you see from GMXT’s About page. Hit Generate to get your device unlock code.
- Copy (CTRL+C) the Device unlock code to clipboard.
- Now open the Notepad and paste (CTRL+V) the key and save the file as SW.UNL
- (Ed: Highlight the filename SW.UNL, hit F2 and rename to SW.UNL only, remove the .txt)
- Ignore the Map unlock code.
- Put your newly created file to your phone’s “\Garmin†directory and restart GMXT.
- Program should now recognize your built-in GPS (if not go to “Settings\System†and choose “Remote GPSâ€Â, select â€ÂUse Attached/Built-in GPSâ€Â) and you should be able to use detailed maps.
To speed up the satellite locking time, enable the Assisted GPS feature in the phone.
“Tools\Settings\General\Positioning\Positioning methodsâ€Â, enable “Assisted GPSâ€Â.
tip: Slide the keypad out, it really is better for locking time on the satellite!

After completing all steps for installing Garmin XT to your phone and transferring the maps disconnect your phone from the computer and turn it off. After 10 seconds turn it on again and enter in the File Manager > Memory Card and find the SW.UNL text file that you created previously. At the end it should be saying “.txt” as in “SW.UNL.txt
Highlight the file, hit Options and go to Rename. There delete the .txt extension at the end of the name but do not change anything else. The phone will give you a warning that the file can become unusable if extension is changed. Hit OK and restart the phone again. After turning it on start the Garmin XT app and go change it to use the Build-In GPS.

Also, I only get 1 (red) bar of reception. Anyone know if this is a sign that the system isn’t working?
How long does it generally take to find satellites? I can’t tell if it is working.

but i was looking for the same stuff for lg incite which have windows mobile 6.1 os and i tried so many ways but it is not recognising in-built reciever,so if you could help me out here .
You will find the link does work but you need to run the instal from a zip. It will not allow you to save the download

Followed you destructions to the letter. Garman cant see the inbuilt GPS in the phone any ideas ?
Have had no luck downloading the Garman maps, tired Vuze no UK maps on it.
